Brighton Aldridge Community Academy VLE

Possibly one of the cleanest and coolest VLE we have ever come across, The Brighton Aldridge Community Academy’s Virtual Learning Environment. It is the VLE that many school would envy and wish they have.

Having just moved into a new modern building benefiting from the latest facilities and physical learning spaces a purpose built school has to offer, the school received nothing less for a virtual learning environment.

The colour palette is fresh and vibrant throughout while staying loyal to official colours of the school.

BACA’s VLE is divided into two main areas, the Student Zone and the Learning Zone.

The Student Zone is one that focuses on student support, student council, clubs and activities as well as year group spaces for head of year and students to share information.

Other sections under this zone is the information and guidance area and the student houses (more about this later).

The Learning Zone on the other hand, focuses on the curriculum and is based on the teaching framework organised by subjects and departments in the school.

The 6 main departments are English, Maths, Science, Expressive Arts, Humanities and Specialisms.

There is also provision for vocational learning that takes place outside of the school.

Students and staff will be able to access courses listed under each department from here.

This navigational structure also gives the head of department an overall view and control of all the courses under each section.

For example, Head of Specialisms will have an overview of all the courses in Business, ICT, Modern Foreign Languages, Sports, Dance, Work Skills and Child Care.

The school uses a House system to motivate its students and to cultivate a sense of competitiveness.

There are altogether four houses and these houses are name after local entrepreneurs, inventor and sports personalities. These are Volk, Gunnell, Roddick and Ovett.

The chosen personalities to represent the house system  is inline with the school’s chosen area of specialisation; Entrepreneurship and Sports.

There is nothing more exciting for the Students than to have the house system incorporated onto their virtual learning environment for this, a separate landing page is included on the VLE.

The last area on the VLE is the Student Page by Year Group.

Just like the House system landing page, this page exists under the Student Zone and is a place where  students can access information relevant to their year group.
