Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+
Also, while low in numbers, the previous generation Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ are now on offer. So, grab yourself a bargain if you do not mind having a previous generation device. Both displays offer silky smooth stutter free motion with a high 120Hz refresh rate. There is a catch however, the 11-inch S7 uses an LTPS LCD panel while the S7+ has a more superior Super AMOLED display. Both offer plenty of details at 276ppi and 266ppi respectively, brightness and wide colour gamut.
Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus mobile platform, you have the option of choosing between WiFi, 4G or the ultra fast 5G connectivity, with a price premium on the 5G model. And to carry you through your day is a high capacity 10,090mAh battery enough for up to 14/15 hours (S7+/S7) on a single charge.
On the back of the tablet is a pair of camera, a 5MP camera with ultra wide F2.2 lens and a main 13MP camera with wide-angle lense. Both cameras are capable of recording up to 4K resolution video at 30fps. Use the different shooting modes for best results; single take, night mode, night hyperlapse, front and back conversation recording, scene optimiser and AR doodle.
It also offers PC-like DeXmode and multi-window support for multi-tasking. Pair this with the optional Book Cover Keyboard with onboard touchpad and you have yourself a laptop replacement.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 10.5-inch
While no longer available, the Galaxy Tab S6 is a premium tablet with a 10.5-inch device. The tablet comes with a new stylus that latches onto the tablet magnetically much like the new iPad Pro and features narrow bezels all round but no rounded corners on the display. As for the stylus, it charges by latching on to the back of the tablet, an odd place but with the smart cover comes with a moulded storage to keep it in place.
The flagship tablet features Samsung’s vibrant AMOLED display wrapped in an all metal chassis. There is also an on-screen optical finger print scanner under the display. Overall, it looks very much like the Tab S5e below but is powered by a flagship Snapdragon 855 chip and comes with more memory and double storage. But what also makes it stands out from other tablets is the use of a dual main camera, a first on a tablet this size.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e 10.5-inch
Taking cues from the new generation iPad with slim and even bezels throughout, the new premium Galaxy Tab S5e has a big 10.5-inch display built in a small frame. The tablet is quickly becoming the crowd’s favourite with a stunning new design, powerful processor, high resolution Super AMOLED display, quad firing speakers and long lasting battery.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e on Amazon
Powered by Qualcomm’s SDM670 Octa-Core Processor clocking in at 1.7 GHz and 2.0 GHz, the tablet is available with 4GB RAM memory and 64GB ROM storage or 6GB RAM memory and 128GB ROM storage. For additional storage of up to 512GB, use the microSD slot. But what strikes us the most is the stunning new premium design. Measuring only 5.5mm thin, it is thinner than the iPad Pro’s 5.9mm, weighing less too at 400 grams compared to 468 grams (11-inch iPad Pro).
Like its predecessor, the Tab S4, the new Tab 5e has a quad firing speaker setup tuned by audio manufacturer AKG and powered by Dolby Atmos technology for incredible 3D surround sound. It also shares the same pair of cameras; 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera for selfie, web chat and facial recognition. The one thing that sets it apart aside from the usual spec bump is the added fingerprint sensor on the power button.
However, while it supports a productive interface like a PC with Samsung DeX, it does not come supplied with a stylus like the Tab S4.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 10.4-inch
A new generation tablet in the A series known as the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 is now available. It comes with a slightly bigger 10.4-inch display with higher 2000 x 1200 (WUXGA+) resolution, faster CPU and even thinner 7mm ultra-thin metal body is now available for an affordable price. Using the formula that made the previous Galaxy Tab A such a success, the Galaxy Tab A7 is good value for money, stylish and fast. But unlike its predecessor, it now comes with even bezel and rounded corners and an even bigger 7040mAh capacity battery to keep you going all day with support for 15W fast charging.
HUAWEI MatePad 10.4 with 10.4-inch
In true Samsung and Apple fashion, a Pro slate is never complete without a ‘standard’ edition. Such is the case with Huawei’s MatePad Pro 10.8 above. To complete the dual slate offering, Huawei brings us the MatePad 10.4. If nothing else, dropping the “Pro” label brings the price tag down to only 40%. But of course, something has to give with such a huge saving. It also uses the open source version of Android 10 and Huawei’s own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) in place of Google Mobile Services (GMS). Two versions are on offer, the base with 3GB memory and 32GB storage and a higher model with 4GB memory and 64GB storage. Both limited to WiFi only for connectivity and comes with a 2K FullView 2000 x 1200 pixel LCD display with immersive surround sound and powerful processor in the form of Kirin 810. Eventhough it is not immediately obvious, the cheaper MatePad 10.4 does support Huawei M Pencil, the same pencil used on the Pro model. You just have to buy the stylus and charger separately.

Huawei MediaPad M5 10 10.8-inch
The MediaPad M series is a mid to high range tablets from Huawei while the MediaPad T series is the entry level variety. The M5 is the biggest tablet in our line-up with a sizeable 10.8-inch display. Wrapped in an all metal curved chassis and 2.5D glass, the panel offers plenty of detail at 2K resolution with ClariVu technology, intelligent algorithms that adjust unclear frames or drops in contrast ratio to deliver a better viewing experience.
For audio, the tablet uses quad firing digitally amplified speakers to deliver high quality sound tuned by Harmon Kardon. It supports the industry standard Hi-Res audio pumping out crisp high notes and more powerful bass minus the distortion.
The high capacity 7500mAh battery does not last as long as the Samsung tablets but long enough with up to 12 hours on a full charge. It supports quick charging taking only 2.9 hours to fully recharge.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1-inch
The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) shrunk in size. From a display measuring 10.5-inch, this latest iteration now spots a smaller 10.1-inch display. Samsung tries to cover all market segments and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A is one for the entry level range. Available in black, silver and gold, this latest offering from Samsung uses the new screen ratio of 16:10 vs previous Tab A 9.7-inch at 4:3 distancing itself from the likes of the iPad. The 10.1-inch display is packed with plenty of pixels. At Full HD or 1200 x 1920 pixels, it is a much welcomed upgrade.
The tablet is powered by a mid range processor the Exynos 7904, an octa-core processor with speeds up to 1.8Ghz. It also just features a standard LED panel with IPS technology instead of Samsung’s Super AMOLED panel, a cost cutting move. Still, the display now has narrower bezel wrapped in premium metal chassis, not common on budget devices. To bring it inline with today’s tablets, it received a memory and storage boost, up to 3GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Battery is at a much respectable 13 hours a WiFi plus Cellular (4G) model is also available.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5-inch – STYLUS
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e may already be out but the Tab S4 is stronger than ever. Together with the included S-Pen Stylus and optional purchase keyboard cover, the capable tablet can be turned into a hybrid laptop with a PC-like user interface using DeX. You will also be glad to know that the included S-Pen is a full life size Pen and not a pokey pointer.
The premium tablet is designed to take on both productivity and entertainment tasks. Samsung DeX that first appeared on the Galaxy smartphones works nicely here without the need for a DeX station or the DeX Pad. All you need is a HDMI adapter to connect to a big screen, keyboard and mouse for a full desktop experience complete with task bar, quick launcher, desktop multi-tasking and multi-window interface.
Even on standby, the screen can be used as a scratch pad for notes using the Screen-Off Memo feature. Jot down your notes quickly using the included multifunctional S-Pen. When at home, turn it into a smart home display to show time, weather, calendar, favourite photos and access Google Assistant or Bixby Voice.
Beyond productivity applications, the Galaxy Tab S4 is Samsung’s premium tablet with super crisp 10.5-inch SuperAMOLED display at QHD, slim bezel although not as slim as the Tab 5e and quad speaker setup tuned by AKG and Dolby Atmos for a true cinematic surround experience. Two storage configurations are available, 64GB or 256GB with WiFi only or WiFi and LTE options.
Unlike the Apple Pencil, the S-Pen stylus is battery-free and requires no charging but still capable of hover and click functions with dedicated Air Command productivity tools.

Next we look at the Samsung tablets below, putting this side by side to try and make sense of Samsung’s move to introduce three relatively similar tablets for the high end segment at the same time.
Samsung GalaxyTab S 10.5 vs Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 12.2 vs Samsung Galaxy NotePRO 12.2
Samsung started off the big screen Android tablet race with Samsung Galaxy Note PRO 12.2-inch and the Samsung Galaxy Tab PRO 12.2-inch both high end Android tablets in early 2014. They then decided to release another high end tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S with a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display. Such is the demand for big screen tablets in the market with manufacturers offering not one but three big ones with very similar specs or is Samsung trying to carve out a niche for itself. While 10.5-inch may not sound very big from the standard 10.1-inch screens, that .4-inch actually translate to a bigger area.
All three tablets while one having a smaller screen at 10.5-inch and the others at 12.2-inch displays packs 4MP resolution or 2560 x 1600 pixels (WQXGA). Other than that however the tablets are not very different as you will see from the quick comparison tablet below. The only obvious difference is that the Note PRO has an S-Pen stylus option and the Tab S has a high contrast and dynamic Super AMOLED display. The true to life colour reproduction of the display is claimed to be 94% of Adobe RGB colour gamut compared to normal LCDs at 73%.
All three Samsung Galaxy tablets are built on the same Octa-Core processor a marriage between a Quad-core 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 and a Quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 (Exynos 5420). The power management system and processor is clever enough to switch between the different cores depending on what you do on the tablet. While storage size options may be different, they each have 3GB of memory which is plenty for a tablet and shares the same cameras, a 2MP auto focus front facing camera and an 8MP (3264 x 2448) auto focus rear facing camera with Full HD video capture capability, geo-tagging, dual camera operation, panorama and HDR.
Size wise, both 12.2-inch tablets spots the same profile and body with very similar weight. The Note PRO weights some 16 grams more at 750 grams and we can attribute this to the S-Pen stylus. As for the Tab S with its smaller screen at 10.5-inch, it is the lightest, smallest and thinnest when compared with the others. The only disadvantage with the Galaxy Tab S is , it only comes with 16GB of on board storage while the Galaxy Tab PRO and Galaxy Note PRO both starts with 32GB of storage, doubles that of the Galaxy Tab S with 64GB storage option also available. All three tablets run on Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro 13.3-inch
Next, we have the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro with the biggest screen at 13.3-inch among the big Android tablets listed here. Following the success of the Yoga 8 and Yoga 10, here is the same formula and profile applied to an even bigger screen.
The multi-mode tablet with it’s rolled edge on one side used to store a high capacity battery is also a chamber for a pair of stereo front firing 8W Premium JBL speakers with sub woofer. Not holding back on the premium sound, it not only supports the Dolby surround sound system, it also has Wolfson Master HiFi audio processing codec.
Multi-mode because you can use the tablet with its built-in kick stand and rolled edge in four different modes; hold, tilt, stand and hang. Yes, the last option is a new mode with a hole cut through the kick stand to let you conveniently hang the laptop on a hook or stand.
Another first for a tablet is the built-in projector at one end of the rolled cylindrical edge capable of projecting up an image in a dark room up to 50″ on any wall or screen. Great for business users looking to do a site presentation and don’t want the fuss of carrying and setting up a separate laptop and projector.

Toshiba Excite 13 tablet 13-inch
Following the highly specified Toshiba Excite 7.7 and Excite 10, Toshiba has introduced an even bigger tablet, the Excite 13. While it may not have the high resolution you will find on the Lenovo or Samsung we have seen this far, it is still quite impressive at 1600 x 900 pixels.
However we cannot say the same for the size and weight of this device. With considerably bigger bezel all around the screen, this is by no means compact big tablet weighing nearly 1 kg double that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. It only good point we can find on this tablet is that it is powered by a tried and proven Tegra 3 quad core processor from NVIDIA. The Quad Core processor includes a fifth battery saving core and coupled with a strong GPU, the ULP GeForce this makes a power combination for gaming. But if you are really after a gaming tablet, check out NVIDIA’s own SHIELD.

With dual integrated kick stand, the tablet can be proped up at 120 degrees or reclined at 170 degree or simply lay it flat perfect for work and play. Samsung Galaxy View 18.4-inch – BIGGEST TABLET
Here is Samsung’s first foray into the big screen Android tablet category since the Galaxy TabPRO and the Galaxy NotePRO at 12.2-inch. It is not until now that they have exceeded that screen size by introducing the Galaxy View with a whooping 18.4-inch touchscreen display.
The tablet is being marketed as a home entertainment device and one can easily see how this will work in a family where each individual can exercise their viewing or streaming preference on a bigger screen. The Full HD 1080p display is bound to be a favourite and while the device is big it is still portable and easy to move around with a built-in handle and stand.

HP Slate 21 Pro All-in-One 21.5-inch – PC PROFILE
This is not really a tablet but a commercial-grade desktop slate. the HP Slate 21 is not portable nor slim but we love the idea of a big touch screen device that you can operate with or without a keyboard and mouse. This is an attempt by HP to turn a friendly and familiar tablet based on Android OS into a Desktop PC they dubbed the All in One (AiO). Who would not since the same OS is being integrated into Cars, Homes, Printers, Media Centers and Smart White Boards.
Powered by NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GPU, the AiO has a 21.5-inch Full HD Touchscreen at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution making it great for streaming 1080p videos, viewing photos and browsing the web. We have seen this used as an information kiosk in shops and offices. The built-in stand props the AiO in standing mode or near flat in ‘surface’ mode (between 15 – 70 degrees).

ALSO: Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch
An alternative to the big screen Android tablets we have on our list is Apple’s big tablet offering, the Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch. Don’t let price put you if as it does come with lots of goodies, support for stylus and that distinctive Apple iPad design, build quality and premium look. The 2732 x 2048 pixel resolution screen at 12.9-inch is one of the highest resolution in our list and high end display could not get better than this as the screen has the same colour space as and wide color gamut including greater colour saturation than any previous iPads. Unlike its smaller counterparts, the iPad Pro 12.9 has 4 speakers, one in each corner of the tablet. Performance wise, it has the processing power to match even a workstation or PC yet capable of lasting up to 10 hours. Pair it with a keyboard and you have a Laptop and PC replacement machine; a truly portable 2-in-1 device.
- 12.9-inch Retina display LED-backlit Multi-Touch display 2732-by-2048 resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi)
- A9X chip with 64‑bit architecture, Embedded M9 coprocessor

- 10 hours battery life (WiFi), 9 hours (WiFi + Cellular models)
While not many dare to venture beyond the gold standard 10.1-inch display size for an Android tablet, the trio of manufacturers; Samsung, Lenovo and Toshiba featured here have executed this quite well.
Our favourite is the Samsung Galaxy Note PRO 12.2. The S-Pen on a screen this size turns the tablet into an effective sketch pad and graphics tablet. The 10-point multi-touch screen still works like any other tablets listed here which gives it an advantage.
Mulling over the Galaxy Tab PRO or Galaxy Note PRO, if you have absolutely no need for a stylus then go with the Galaxy Tab PRO, otherwise stick with the Galaxy Note PRO with all things considered.
The next best tablets in our mind is the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro 13.3. If you are considering a big tablet, why not go all the way with this, or one of the bigger HP Slate 17 and Samsung Galaxy View 18.4. What really got us excited is the integrated projector and dual firing premium sound system.
There are a few other prototypes in the making, ViewSonic has announced a 22-inch Android tablet a couple of years ago and Panasonic showed their prototyped 20-inch 4K tablet running Windows 8 but it is unlikely that these will hit the consumer market unless there is an appetite to carry a ridiculously big tablet. Would you have a 20 to 22-inch tablets?
If you know of any good big screen Android tablet and would like for us to include it here, please leave us a comment below.

Can you tell me the main differences between the Samsung Galaxy View and the HP Slate 17? I am buying one for my son who is disabled. He would use it to watch videos and maybe play very simple games (the kind for babies where they touch the screen and colors and sounds “explode”). He cannot speak or communicate so I ruled out the Asus Flip 2 in 1 15.6 because of the twisted nematic display..he wouldn’t be able to tell me if he couldn’t see the screen at a particular angle. The Samsung is 200 dollars more than the HP, but I am willing to pay the extra if the Samsung would be a better choice for him. Thanks for any thoughts!

Thank you Linda for your comment. Yes, the Samsung Galaxy View does look like a better choice given its size. If you do not need to move it around or take it with you during travels, then we would recommend the Galaxy View. It has a grip handle built into the stand to make it easier to carry around at home. While you can remove this, there is still a slight bulge on the back.
The HP Slate 17 with its fold-flat kick stand is better for travelling and unlike the Galaxy View, has a slimmer profile which makes it easier to fit in a travel case if need be.
Both tablets run Android so they are not hugely different, just little customizations and skins by the manufacturers.
One thing to note though is that the Samsung Galaxy View is a device focused on entertainment; with its home screen set to access TV channels and streaming video services. You can still access the standard Android home screen by swiping sideways to access install apps among other things which can be a plus.

For professional tablets, it is going as big as 55 inch now, I think 32 inch will be ideal for desktop interactive monitor or digital signage and 32 inch above ones will be a good fit in public display. Android commercial tablet will be a disruptive innovation to the previous entrenched Windows Totem, it is more and more affordable and available.
