We looked at 10 of the best portable power bank, with a range sizes from big and small capacity to ultra high capacity. There is a growing need for longer lasting portable external battery charger and the demand is being met by manufacturers with the line-up featured below.

Make no mistake that these high capacity batteries especially those above 15,000mAh are big and heavy. While some manufacturers try their best to make it ultra slim or grip friendly, these will ultimately still take up a big foot print.

In our comparison, power banks with capacity between 10,000mAh to 15,000mAh weigh from around 150 grams to 309 grams. While, higher capacity portable battery chargers, those between 15,000mAh to 20,000mAh weigh around 300 grams to over 500 grams.

The weigh of these power banks also depends on the chosen material for its construction, while most manufacturers op for plastic cases, some go as far as to encase their rechargeable batteries in aluminium alloy casing giving it a more premium feel, weighted when held and robustness.

The bigger the capacity the more juice there is to charge your smartphones or tablets. These high capacity power banks will charge your devices a good few times before needing to charge itself. The number of charges depend on the capacity, technology behind these power banks as well as the devices you are charging. A good example of how many times you can charge your device for a 15000mAh battery charger is shown in the image below:

Most chargers come with 2 USB output ports to charge two devices at the same time, while power banks with bigger capacity battery may include a third port. When considering a portable battery charger, it is worth looking at the maximum output current on the USB ports.

Higher current allows for faster charging and charging of devices with bigger battery such as tablets, iPad or Phablets. For example, the iPad wall charger is rated 5 Volts and 2.1 Amps. In order to charge the iPad using the same amount of time you would when a portable charger, you will need a power bank with USB port capable of 2.1 Amps or higher. If you plug this into a 1.0 Amp port, it will take twice as long.
