The Great European Road Trip 2
So we are finally here in France! Amazing!
The journey to the ferry was relatively smooth, although there were some tense moments when we debated whether or not we would be allowed to board the ferry as the sat-nav predicted that we would be there at 12.35 for the 1.15 ferry, and it clearly stated in the booking emails that we would have to be there more than 1 hour before departure. Were we going to be too late?
We are currently installed in a little motel, Premier Classe for a short stop over before heading towards Paris where we have booked an apartment for a week.
The general plan is that we would drive no more than 3 hours each day, as this would make the journey relatively pleasant for the two children, plus whoever is driving that day, does not need to be overly tired.
Having driven from Wales, across England down to the beautiful White Cliffs of Dover, we decided that it would make sense to stop over relatively near Calais.
Boulounge-sur-Mer was the choice although Lille was also an option.
Boulogne-sur-Mer, The Stopover to Paris
We decided on Boulonge-sur-Mer, being that little bit more on the journey south to Paris. We managed to grab a real bargain (we paid 33.15 Euros for a 2+1 room) for a very basic room with a shower.
Although, Hilton it is not, Premier Classe, is somewhat reminiscent of the American motels that are typically seen in the movies. Having said that, it is much cleaner and having a rather large number of families with kids feels relatively safe and secure even if it’s very basic. Towels are provided although there are no toiletries and parking is free.
Boulounge-sur-Mer is a very pretty little French town with a beautiful Basilica Notre Dame at the heart of the old city,
The beautiful cobbled streets and greatly tended, highly manicured gardens make it a picturesque stop.
After a hearty dinner along the streets in the city we headed back for some rest, ready for the next exciting day heading down South.
